The Homestead Environment
At Hewitts Homestead we aim to make a beautiful environment, not just of the house but also the garden and its surroundings. To date, we have planted many flowers, shrubs and trees. We do this because we want the area to look nice, obviously, but also to benefit our natural environment. We like to hear the birds singing and chirping away all day, nesting in the trees in spring and sheltering in them during winter. We love to spot the hedgehogs that eat the snails and slugs, the butterfly’s that build their cocoon on our milkweed plants and our visitors sheltering in the shade of the trees.
Our vision
Our vision is to keep expanding Hewitts Homestead in a way that only benefits the environment. We are looking for donations of time, plants, trees or money (to buy these things). We want to leave our environment better than we found it, to enable the next generation to experience the immense beauty and feeling of completeness that being here in the garden gives. Mostly we would like to plant natives as they will naturally thrive, but we are happy to try other trees of your choice.

What we are asking from you…
If you know us, you know that we spend virtually every weekend here at the Homestead, fixing, mending, creating, digging, cutting and planting. If you are an individual who is able to give time, one off or once a month we would love to have you here helping out. If you are a couple who would like to plant a tree in memory of a loved one, bring your tree, plant it and visit it regularly. If you have a few left over plants that don’t quite fit in your garden consider donating them to us and we will find room in ours. If you are able to gift money so that we can buy and plant the next tree we would appreciate that tremendously. You can even choose the type of tree. If you are a business that is interested in sponsoring a section of a paddock to plant many natives and trees we welcome you wholeheartedly. Contact us or donate now.
