Remember
It can be so difficult saying goodbye to a loved one after their passing. More and more people are choosing to hold a ‘Celebration of Life’ instead of a traditional funeral.
A celebration of life is a ceremony to say goodbye to a loved one who has died.
It can be a little more casual, unlike a funeral or memorial. Instead, the focus is on celebrating the person’s life by sharing happy memories of your loved one. Sharing stories, singing songs and being together with the family and friends of a person who has passed can help start the healing process.
The celebration does not follow a set structure like a funeral or memorial. It can be anything you like (or what the person wanted) – casual clothes, ( or dress up even) as family and friends are asked to share or listen to stories of the wonderful life of your loved one. We are happy to provide the venue in a peaceful rural setting, with kai and music.
The body is not present at a celebration of life, but the ashes could be brought and may be scattered here in the gardens of Hewitts Homestead. You may also like to participate in the “Plant a Tree Project”.
You may also want to organise a Celebrant for this occasion. Ask us for a referral and we will be happy to guide you through this process. A very private and secure space which is also available for food and drink after a traditional funeral.

Plant a Tree Project
Hewitts Homestead is a beautiful place of nature, with a mix of native plants and trees along with introduced species. Our aim is to keep this area as natural as possible by planting more and more trees. Over 100 trees have already been planted. You may like to ‘sponsor’ a tree in memory of a loved one, and have a tree planting ceremony as part of the Celebration of Life.
