The gardens were little more than a few paddocks less than 10 years ago. A previous owner many years back had wisely planted lots of trees.
When the current owners Vanessa and Phil arrived the garden was outlined, had large trees and a few shrubs but no plants or flowers to speak of, only large areas of bark mulch.
Throughout their time at Hewitts Homestead Vanessa has remedied this and spent many an hour planting bulbs, shrubs and perennials to have a display of colour all year round.
Phil tends to the grass and the trimming of the many hedges.
The garden is still being added to, with another section previously known as ‘the back paddock’ that overlooks the ranges, gaining a variety of trees and shrubs for future generations to benefit from.
Natives are planted at a higher ratio due to them growing so well at the Homestead.
Interestingly we do not use pesticides on our property, instead preferring the few lawn weeds and daily visits from hedgehogs.
Come and visit Hewitts Homestead Gardens on 15th December 2024 between the hours of 11.30am and 1.30pm. Bring a picnic or buy a drink and a sweet treat from us on the day. Only $10 per person. One child under 10 may accompany each full paying adult.

Parking
We have off-street parking on the property.
Wheelchair Access
The driveway is loose stone and can be difficult to push a wheelchair through, access to the garden is difficult, but not impossible, please contact us for more details.
Are Dogs allowed?
No large dogs as we are on a working dairy farm – small well behaved dogs are welcome on a leash (this is strict). We also have – dogs, cats, horses, and sheep.
Food available?
Light refreshments and morning tea are available by arrangement.
Eftpos?
Sorry we don’t have eftpos available no. Please bring cash on the day to buy extra’s.
Toilets?
We have a toilet available inside the homestead.
Plants/Sales
We do have some plants for sale along with a gift table; handmade soaps, candles, potpourri, dried flowers and seeds.
Suitable for garden weddings, birthdays, get-togethers, high tea, wellness retreats, work functions and meetings. We have many options available, download our packages from the home page, bespoke and on an application basis.

Outdoor seating throughout the garden.
Picnics
Allowed with prior notice. Please bring your own blanket. All rubbish must be taken away with you.
Children allowed?
Absolutely Children are welcome but must be supervised at all times. We also expect them to be respectful of other visitors.
